HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY

HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY IN ODESSA & MIDLAND, TX

Hormone replacement therapy is commonly used to treat symptoms of menopause, such as vaginal dryness and discomfort and hot flashes, through the administration of medication. Other benefits of hormone replacement therapy are improving women’s long-term health by preventing bone loss and reducing fracture probability.

HRT’s primary purpose is to replace the female hormones that your body makes less of as you transition into menopause. There are two types of hormone replacement therapy: estrogen therapy and combination therapy.

  • Estrogen Therapy: A primary care physician will most likely prescribe a low dose of estrogen after a hysterectomy or similar medical situation. Estrogen comes in many forms, including pills, patches, gels, creams, and sprays.
  • Combination Therapy: This option includes estrogen and progesterone, which is more commonly recommended to patients who still have a uterus. Combination therapy can be prescribed as a pill, skin patch, or IUD.

Hormone replacement therapy may be an option for you, depending on your age, medical history, and the type of hormone therapy and its potential risks.
